Kimberley Anne Scott was born on January 9, 1975. At age 14, Kim and
her twin sister, Dawn, ran away from home because their parents were
alcoholics. Kim moved in with her friend Marshall Mathers who is known to
the world as controversial rapper Eminem. Kim met Marshall through a
mutual friend at age 13. He was 15 and when she met him, he was jumping
around on the furniture lip-synching LL Cool J songs. At first, Kimberley
and Marshall fought like brother and sister but eventually they started

After the two of them both dropped out of school, Marshall got a job at
a restaurant called Gilbert's Lodge. At the time, he was an aspiring
rapper and worked hard to make it big. On December 25, 1995, Kim gave
birth to her and Marshall's first child, Hailie Jade Scott. Marshall's
first album, Infinite, was released a year later and the love song
"Searchin," which was written for Kim, was featured on the 10 track EP. The
album flopped and Kim and Marshall were in serious financial trouble.

After living with Marshall's emotionally unstable mother Debbie for a
few years, Kim and Marshall moved out on their own. Their new house was
in a bad neighbourhood and one night while Kim was doing the dishes,
she was almost killed by a stray bullet which came through their kitchen
window. "The neighborhoods we lived in fucking sucked," Kim told
Rolling Stone in 1999. "I went through four TVs and five VCRs in two years."
Financial trouble eventually put a strain on Kim and Marshall's
relationship and they broke up in 1997 because Kim wanted him to give up his

The break-up between them was not easy. Kim was living with her mom and
her stepdad and refused to let Marshall see Hailie. As a result,
Marshall wrote the song "97 Bonnie & Clyde" which originally appeared on "The
Slim Shady EP" under the title "Just the Two of Us." In 1998, Marshall
wrote another song about Kim and made her the title character. At the
time she was working as a masseusse and it didn't seem like they would
get back together but about a year later, they reunited.

Kim and Marshall got married on June 14, 1999 at a church in St.
Joseph. When asked about Kim, Marshall responded, "Me and Kim, we been
through our dramas and shit, but I'd be bald-faced lying if I said I don't
love her or I'm with her because of my daughter. I'm with her 'cause I
wanna be with her. I love that girl, man. I really do."

In April of 2000, Kimberley's driving license was revoked after she
received a second drunken driving conviction. Three months later Kimberley
wound up in legal trouble again. On June 4th, 2000, Marshall and
Kimberley were arrested at a bar called the Hot Rocks Cafe. Apparently,
Marshall had come to the bar to see Kim and found her in the arms of another
man. He pulled out a gun and hit John Guerra, the man she was seen
with. The police arrived and Kim's behavior led to her being arrested and
charged with disorderly conduct.

Marshall filed for a divorce on June 22 and Kimberley attempted suicide
on July 7. As a result of her suicide attempt, Kim and Marshall's
sentence hearings were delayed. On August 4th, Kimberley was in trouble
again after getting in a fight with Dawn in a limo. Kim apparently pushed
Dawn out of the limo but the the news failed to make headlines and the
incident was never spoken of again.

News of Marshall & Kim's divorce wasn't released to the public until
August 16 and she then sued him for $10 million and sole custody of
Hailie. Marshall settled and retained joint legal custody of their daughter.
During all of this drama, Marshall and Kimberley moved houses and were
still living together.

In October, Kim plead guilty to the disorderly conduct charge. Judge
Dawnn Gruenburg sentenced Kim to 11 months' probation, and assessed her a
$50 fine. Kim was ordered to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous orientation
meeting tonight. Kim told the judge she attends Alcoholics Anonymous
twice a week and is taking Anabuse, a drug that causes illness when
combined with alcohol. Marshall agreed to pay $15,000 for Kimberley's legal

The couple decided to reconcile for the sake of their daughter in
December. At that time they'd already moved into their new home with Hailie.
Dawn was also living with them as well as her eight-year-old daughter
Amy. There were even rumours that Kim and Marshall were trying for
another baby but the reconciliation was short lived; Kim filed for a divorce
on March 1st. Kim and Marshall have joint custody of Hailie and at
first the divorce was amicable.

Recently, things got ugly when the issue of child support came up. Kim
wanted almost $3,000 a week from Marshall and claimed even that amount
wasn't substantial. Marshall disagreed and said it was too much. The
couple has hired a mediator to work out their financial issues.

In June, Kim made headlines again after her truck was stolen and
involved in a hit and run accident. Later that month, Kim was charged with
cocaine posession. Her and her friend were jet skiing when they
encountered difficulties with their watercraft. Somebody witnessed the accident
and phoned the police. The two women were found and Kim was arrested
for not paying a fine from a previous charge. A bag of cocaine was found
in the backseat of the police car that Kim was driving in. She will
most likely receive probation for the incident.

Here's what Marshall sais about his ex wife,Kim

"Me and Kim, we been through our dramas and shit, but I'd be bald-faced lying if I said I don't love her or I'm with her because of my daughter. I'm with her 'cause I wanna be with her. I love that girl, man. I really do."

"I really felt that I wanted to do that shit. At one point in time, I really wanted to do that shit. For real."

"Kim used to get mad when I rapped about wanting to kill her. But I tell her, 'look if you piss me off when I'm writing a song, you might be in it.'"

"Just because I talk about my daughter and put her in my songs, or I say something about Kim in my songs, doesn't give you the right or nobody else to talk about 'em and feel free to do so."

"My baby's mother put me through a lot of shit, so she's worth a lot of songs."

"She got an attitude and I can't stand that attitude shit."

"Not to defend Kim, but I realize what has happened to me has probably been a strain on her, too."

"When we were younger, she supported everything I did. The older we got, the more reality started to set in. She's one of those people that's real down to earth, like 'Hello! You're living in fantasy. These things don't happen to people like us.'"

"You never would've thought, but I played [the song Kim] to her once we started talking again. I asked her to tell me what she thought of it. I remember my dumb-ass saying 'I know this is a fucked-up song but it shows how much I care about you. To even think about you this much. TO even put you on a song like this.'"

"We were kinda like high school sweethearts. But we both dropped out. It wasn't a fucking wise decision for both of us to quit school, have a child together."

What they say about Kim and Em:

"Just because my husband is an entertainer that does not mean that our personal business is for everyone's entertainment purposes." -Kim

"Me and Kim, we been through our dramas and shit, but I'd be bald-faced lying if I said I don't love her or I'm with her because of my daughter. I'm with her 'cause I wanna be with her. I love that girl, man. I really do." Eminem

"Kim is basically a nice woman whose had a hard life. And Em talks about beating her in those songs, but really she could beat him if she wanted-shes a bit taller than him and shes a tough woman. I think they really do love each other." - Dee Tee

DJ House Shoes (one of Eminem's neighborhood friends):

"She's nutty, man!"

Proof (Em's best friend and member of D-12):

"I don't know whether they're crazy in love, love-crazy or just crazy." (Talking about Marshall and Kim together)

The bartender at Hot Rocks Cafe:

"Kim's night always ends with a fight"

Debbie Mathers-Briggs (Eminem's mom):

"I took her in at age 12 which I kick myself everyday for. She does not care about my son at all. She cares about his money."

"Marshall is just a down-to-earth guy. Neighbor kids always mob him to
sign their shirt. He loves his fans. I look at him as Marshall- not as
a famous person."

"We aren't going around with diamond rings and fur coats. [Eminem]
earned his money the hard way. His anger for his mother comes out in his
songs. He owes her nothing."

"Nobody really knows he's married. A big part of it is females buy 80
percent of Marshall's records. Lots of girls are fans, and he's
good-looking. They think they stand a chance."

"The neighborhoods we lived in fucking sucked. I went through four TVs
and five VCRs in two years."

"Just because my husband is an entertainer, that does not mean that our
personal business is for everyone's entertainment purposes."

The following letter was provided to the Free Press by Eminem's wife, Kimberly Mathers.

To whom it may concern,

First and foremost, I would like to start off by saying that just because my husband is an entertainer, that does not mean that our personal business is for everyone's entertainment purposes, but since the press seems to think that it is, then they should get their story straight.

My husband came up to Hot Rocks to check up on me, why is still unknown to me because if I was to cheat on him it wouldn't be in a neighborhood bar where he knows I am. Had he asked any questions before he flew off the handle, he would have realized that everyone with me (both male and female) were only friends. The fact that he just jumped to conclusions has gotten him and myself in trouble.

I would also like to state, since my husband has had no problem trying to make me look like an unfaithful wife, that every time I find a picture of him with other women, or read in magazines that he's involved with 'groupies,' I don't go and show up where he is making a huge scene and getting our faces put all over the TV and papers. I have always taken his word on things and stood by his side. Even after the whole situation up at Hot Rocks, I tried to defend him.
